Film Opening Storyboard

Assignment Description

For this part of the assignment, we had to create a storyboard for our film opening. A storyboard is a visual plan that shows how each important shot in the film will look before filming begins. It helps map out the camera angles, actions, and movement in the scene. This makes it easier to understand how the story will unfold on screen and helps the group stay organized during filming.

How We Visualized the Film

When creating our storyboard, we focused on building suspense and mystery from the very beginning of the film. The first shots show Harmony and Selena walking down a dark suburban street at night after leaving a party. The house behind them is the only source of light, which helps establish the setting and immediately creates an eerie atmosphere.

Next, the storyboard shows Selena suggesting that they play hide and seek. Harmony begins counting while facing a tree, and the camera slowly circles around her as she counts down. This shot is important because it builds tension while the audience waits for something to happen.

Once Harmony reaches one, the storyboard shows the moment when the scream is heard. The camera focuses on Harmony’s shocked reaction before the screen cuts to black. This sudden moment is meant to surprise the audience and create questions about what happened to Selena.

The next set of storyboard frames shows the search scene. Harmony, Amaya, and the other teenagers walk down the street using flashlights to look for Selena. Because the environment is so dark, the flashlights act as the main source of light. This helps create a tense horror atmosphere and makes the audience feel like they are searching with the characters.

One of the most important storyboard shots is when a flashlight reveals blood on the ground where the road ends. The camera slowly zooms in on the blood and reveals a strange symbol. This shot hints that the disappearance might be connected to something more mysterious.

The final storyboard frame focuses on Pedro. The camera shows a close-up of his face, partially in shadow. This visual choice makes him seem suspicious and foreshadows that he might be connected to what happened.

Group Contributions

I worked with Lujaina Said and Ella Netivi on this project. As a group, we planned the sequence of events and decided which moments were the most important to show visually.

My main contribution to the storyboard process was helping plan how the suspense would build throughout the opening. I helped decide where the camera would zoom in on the blood and how the final close-up of Pedro would look. These shots are important because they hint at the mystery and help foreshadow the possible killer.

The storyboard helped us clearly visualize our film opening and made it easier to understand how each shot would connect together when we begin filming.
